Türkiye

The Competition and Innovation Lab has launched the Türkiye Initiative to explore the evolving landscape and critical issues of competition law and innovation in Türkiye.

Türkiye’s competition law closely follows the framework established by the European Union with some national peculiarities.

Labor market issues are under increasing scrutiny, with competition law intersecting with employment practices, particularly in relation to anti-competitive agreements on wages and hiring. Türkiye is among the first jurisdictions that adopted detailed Guidelines on Competition in Labour Markets.

In the digital domain, Türkiye is considering draft (DMA-like) amendments to its competition law, which address challenges specific to digital markets, including market dominance, platform regulation, and the use of data.

The technology undertaking exception to the merger control thresholds, is another area of focus, with uncertainty remaining over its practical application and implications for tech-related transactions.

To promote a deeper understanding of these issues, the initiative will organize events designed to spark discussions, raise awareness, and generate ideas for improving Türkiye’s competition law. By bringing together policymakers, academics, and industry leaders, the initiative aims to encourage debate on how to further refine and strengthen Türkiye’s competition law framework, an increasingly important jurisdiction in the global regulatory landscape.
